Your voice as a writer maps the constellation of your own story, a compass guiding you through the world only you can create.
How do you write from life without being confined by it? What can be drawn upon and how do you give it form on the page?
Mapping The Self is a three hour creative writing workshop exploring how personal truth evolves into story. Writers will be guided to write from intuition and presence, shaping their unique lens into narrative and discovering how identity, emotion, and imagination intertwine on the page.
This workshop offers tools to deepen your writing practice and nurture your voice as a solo artist. Together, we’ll explore ways to transform fragments of truth into art - part memoir, part mind map, part poetic reconstruction - creating work that feels alive, resonant, and unmistakably yours.
This writing workshop is suitable for emerging writers and actors who are wanting to write. For Tawata Productions, writers are our lifeblood - our heart, conscience and soul. In 2025, as part of Breaking Ground, multi-award winning playwright Sarita Keo Kossamak So, Mapping The Self is a 3 hour workshop taking place as part of the international Indigenous writers’ festival Breaking Ground 2025.
Mapping The Self will take place from 9.30AM-12.30PM on Saturday November 29 2025 at Te Auaha. There are a limited number of places available in this course.
Breaking Ground is produced by Te Whanganui-a-Tara based creative company, Tawata Productions, and made possible by our partners Te Auaha, Wellington City Council and Creative New Zealand.
