Tangihanga is a 75-minute solo drama-comedy performed by Kristyl Neho. The story follows Jess, a loving daughter returning to the marae to mourn the death of her father, Karanipa. As whānau and friends gather for the tangi, secrets are revealed, tensions rise, and old wounds resurface.

Through a masterful solo performance, Kristyl embodies over 30 characters, weaving together humour, grief, and cultural ritual to explore the emotional layers of loss, memory, and identity.

About the Playwright: Kristyl Neho

Kristyl Neho (Ngati Kahungunu) is a respected Māori storyteller, performer, director, and producer. A graduate of Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School and a certified NLP Practitioner, Kristyl brings over 25 years of experience to the arts. She has created and performed more than 15 solo theatre works, with Tangihanga being her most personal and culturally resonant piece. Kristyl is the founder of Maia Dreams Charitable Trust, whose Confident Me programme has reached over 18,000 students nationwide. She was named a Kiwibank Local Hero in 2024 and was a finalist for Inspirational Woman NZ 2024. She was the Winner of ‘Outstanding Performer’ for Tangihanga at Whangarei Fringe.
