El Diván is a theatre production framed as a therapy session — as serious as it is suspicious — exploring migration, identity, and what we carry when building a life far from where we began.

One hour to say it all. Laughter guaranteed. Results… debatable.

Following its debut at Q Theatre as part of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival, El Diván returns for a new season after a strong audience response. This time, the show will be presented in both English and Spanish across different nights, expanding its reach while staying grounded in the communities it was created for.

Created and performed by Matías Avaca and Daniel Fernández, the work builds on Laenye Productions’ ongoing exploration of multilingual performance and cross-cultural storytelling. Previous productions include La Catrina, Comedy World League, Mi Casa Su Casa, Spanglish Comedy, The Wall, and more.

Please note: This show is R16, and contains references to personal and emotional experiences (non-graphic). The show will be in English on Thursday and Friday, and in Spanish on Saturday.
