In 2025, two doctors bought a tradie van, painted it up as a fanciful ambulance and drove the length and breadth of the North Island to protest the state of NZ’s public healthcare system, to hear every-day Kiwis’ experience with it and their ideas for reform. This documentary has curated and amplified those voices and kicks off the final phase of the Hīkoi, which is to bring the report of this ‘people’s enquiry’ back to the communities that had shared their stories. The documentary and the book are part of the kaupapa to catalyse individuals and communities to imagine and demand a health system of quality, equity, and sustainability.
