The Big Screen Symposium is the annual event that puts the filmmakers of Aotearoa New Zealand in one venue for the purpose of debate, discussion, information and inspiration.
The 2017 Big Screen Symposium will take place on 30 September - 1 October. The theme for 2017 is AUTHENTICITY & PRETENCE. We will be announcing speakers and sessions from mid-August.
Speakers and delegates alike embrace the spirit of the weekend...
“I went to my first Big Screen Symposium feeling nervous and rusty and left feeling inspired. At my second I spent 10 minutes chatting to someone who offered me a job 6 months later. At my third I was able to talk directly to people making a funding decision on one of my projects. I can’t wait for the next one.” - Mark Prebble, Delegate
“I loved hearing more about the NZ industry and meeting some of the very talented filmmakers as well. I was also impressed at the wide interest groups involved with the Symposium - it was really refreshing to attend a conference that is not solely producer- orientated.” - Liz Watts, Producer (AUS), Speaker 2015
“I love its kaupapa, its ambition. I love seeing familiar faces. I loved the high I had in 2015, feeling overstuffed with ideas and inspiration; at its best, there’s nothing like it.” Survey respondent, 2017
